Sound Tectonics

Sound Tectonics explores research areas between sound, art, and architecture creating links between different creative fields. We're crossing research pathways and field-specific tools in order to create immersive experiences of space.

How do we perceive our sonic environment redacted from context? What are the unconscious triggers of sonic experience and how do we subconsciously relate different sonic patterns to our experience of the built environment? How do architectural sonic conditions influence our social behavior? Ultimately, how can we reframe our spatial perception through sound?

This project brings together interdisciplinary experts from various fields; sound artists, light artists, architects, coders, makers in order to create a common platform of exchange and inquiry that breaks through silo towards more hybrid practises.

Diverse sonic data sets, both natural and artificial, were gathered throughout the city of Athens highlighting the diversity of sonic patterns in the urban fabric. Those were selectively edited and sythensized to curate new sonic experiences of the city of Athens stripped from its visual contrasts. An interactive installation of isolated sonic hosts was created, where visitors can experience a "virtual walk" of Athens by immersing themselves in these sonic bubbles in a solitary experience within a crowd.
